Will Downing, Personal Training and Strength and Conditioning

I've been working as a strength and conditioning coach and as a personal trainer for the last 7 years in the United Kingdom, China and Canada.

I studied in London and Leeds in the UK, and worked in London, Beijing and now in Vancouver, Canada.

Currently I am running a gym based out of The Tennis Centre in Surrey BC where I conduct Strength and Conditioning for all youth athletes, youth development camps and 1-2-1 strength and conditioning.

I’ve worked in many high performance environments and while at British Fencing I was published along with other coaches in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.

A strength and conditioning (S&C) coach differs from a personal trainer in that they focus on the performance of athletes for a specific sport. A personal trainer works with the general population primarily for general health and fitness improvements.

My work as a personal trainer took me to Third Space in London which is arguably one of the best gyms in Europe.  Here, I focused on training clients to either lose weight, be healthier, musculoskeletal rehabilitation or train for an event such as a marathon or obstacle race. 


My philosophy

Each individual has different needs, whether that be a professional athlete or general public, each person should have a tailored approach to their training and not a cookie cutter approach. 

In my own time, I enjoy learning and get inspiration from books.  I also enjoy developing a new skill set and have recently completed an Adobe Illustrator Course. 

I've completed obstacle races, 10km's and the odd triathlon. The most challenging race I’ve done was a 24-mile "run" called Man Vs Mountain (pictured left). Such a great event and one I would recommend!
